MAPL in GEOS-5

The GMAO's GEOS-5 modeling and assimilation system uses ESMF extensively. It was during this development that the software that eventually evolved into MAPL was first written.

Since it is ESMF/MAPL-based, GEOS-5 uses a hierarchical topology to connect its many gridded components, as shown in the attached diagram of the AGCM part of GEOS-5.

The bundled utility mapl_vlist.pl automatically scans the GEOS-5 source tree producing a comprehensive list of variables being defined through MAPL. Check the GEOS-5 Variable List for a sample output.
